One of the rarest and most valuable types of garnet, tsavorite is found only in a small area on the border between Kenya and Tanzania. Only recently discovered, it is one of the rising stars of the gemstone world. It is a spectacular vivid green colour that rivals the finest emerald. Indeed, it is superior to emerald in many ways. It has greater durability, brilliance and rarity. It is also never treated, unlike the vast majority of emeralds which are routinely fracture filled to improve their clarity. Stones over one carat are very rare and valuable.
