Citrine is a yellow to orange variety of quartz. It often resembles the far rarer imperial topaz, a stone with which it is frequently confused. Unlike imperial topaz, citrine is an affordable stone and is excellent value for money. It comes in a variety of colours, from deep burnt orange through to golden yellow. The most valuable colour is vivid deep orange. Most citrine is heat treated and the treatment is stable and permanent.
Like other varieties of quartz, it has good hardness and durability.
